Born in the southern part of the state, Herschel now makes his home and studio in St.Francisville, Louisiana. The magic of this beautiful town is reflected in his paintings, which possess a style unique to Herschel alone. His works are flowing and spiritual and his depiction of Louisiana is authentic. Early in Herschels career he won a Grand Sweepstakes Award for sculpture. Later he went on to design the flag and emblem for the city of New Iberia. Herschels talent was used as an Illustrator during the Vietnam war and later in television. The artists talent has been used in films such as "North and South", The St. Francisville Experiment"and The Reaping"starring Hillary Swank. Herschel's paintings are captivating, just as the world that surrounds him.
Harrington Gallery was founded in 1976. The building has a history dating back to circa 1830. The structure was a one room school house that was located in another part of St. Francisville. It was moved to it's present location in the 1920's where it was reconstructed and became the local post office. Presently it's the gallery and studio of Herschel Harrington. Nestled in the heart of the historic district in the beautiful town of St. Francisville, Louisiana, it possesses a timelessness equal to that of the Mississippi River that gave the town its life.
